Classical unschooling

Yeah, it still sounds like an oxymoron to me, too. Well, that seems to be the direction we are headed, although I don't give a hoot what it is called. Right now it is called Alex's life.

Right now we are at a point in his homeschooling career that we aren't quite sure what to do with him. We know he is smart and we know he is learning, despite his mothers attempt at schooling him.

The only thing I am worried about is math. He just doesn't care. I'm sure that it will all work out in the end, but for right now we are playing on the fact that he wants to be rich. He doesn't care how or why, he just knows he will be. He doesn't need to be bothered with all of the details, thank - you - very - much!

Last night I worked on a plan for the rest of Alex's school year. We are going to start on Monday and I am sure it will be revised by then, and after implementation. Not all of these will be done at the same time. The plan for him is to be done with school by lunch time.

Here it is, as of today:

Math

  • Investing books I just bought
  • Consumer Math book and videos from library
  • A short drill sheet a day (possibly)

History/Geography

  • Listen in on Joy Hakim read alouds
  • "Don't know much about..." series- Have him read at least a 2 page spread and write 3-4 important points. (Got this idea from Marie)
  • Geography workbook (This is a Spectrum workbook I bought for him earlier in the year

Science

English

Health

  • Spend time a few times a week on various health related web pages

Logic

Art

  • Artistic Pursuits
  • Hopefully something will be available through the co-op we are starting

Music

  • Hopefully something will be available through the co-op we are starting

Physical Education

  • Hopefully something will be available through the co-op we are starting

Oh, I'm so bummed! I thought *I* had coined the term "classical unschooling." Good for you.
